The Department pioneered modern physics research in the state. The department has hosted several National Conferences/Workshops/Seminars and Symposia. Research in the frontier areas has resulted into Ph.D. and research publications. Department has established collaborations with renowned institutions across the country. Faculty has won awards and recognitions at national and international level. Faculty have been member of many committees and institutional/organizational bodies. In recent past, the department established new research experimental facilities namely Microwave Remote Sensing Dielectric Behavior of Material and Preparation of Material and Characterization. The Department established in 2007.

Mechanics Lab

At the beginning stage there is a need of fundamental knowledge of some basic instruments such as Bar Pendulum, Cater Pendulum, Torsional Pendulum, Fly Wheel, Inertia Table, Surface Tension Setup and Viscosity Setup. The mechanics lab covers entire relevance of fundamental physics.

Electricity and Magnetism Lab

The knowledge of electricity and magnetism are part and parcel at first step. This lab includes Carry-Foster Bridge Setup, LCR Circuit, Magnetic Field Setup, Dielectric Constant Setup, Ohm’s Law and Coulomb’s Law Setup, etc.

Thermodynamics Lab

The lab of thermodynamics is very important in understanding the basics of physics. This lab helps to determine mechanical equivalent of heat, verification of stefan’s law, triode valve characteristics, coefficient of thermal conductivity of material.

Sound, Acoustics & Optics Lab

This lab offers knowledge of sound, acoustics and optics. Really this lab is connected with daily life of human being. With the help of this lab it has been learnt about Sonometer, Melde’s experiment, Newton’s ring, Diffraction grating, Ultrasonics, prism, telescope, etc.

Basic Nuclear Lab

Basic Nuclear Physics lab covers GM-Counter, photocell phenomena, abbey’s refractometer. Plateau characteristic of GM- Counter and its design, pulse height and voltage of GM tube, absorption of radiation can be studied through this lab. GM Counter

Electronics and LASER Lab

The understanding of Electronics and Laser based instruments and their characteristics are studied in their lab. This lab includes characteristic knowledge of different diodes, transistor, Rectifiers, Logic Gates as well as knowledge of wavelength determination of LASER, its beam divergence and polarization.

Fiber Optics Lab

The basics of optical fiber communication phenomena are translated to students in theoretical and practical form in this lab. Through this lab the basics about numerical aperture, links, signal, frequency and pulse modulation of fiber optic cable are taught to the students.

Advanced Electronics Lab

Apart from the basics understanding of Electronics instruments the study of advanced features of diodes; transistor, Rectifiers, Logic Gates and their circuit fabrication are studied in this lab. Solar energy trainer setup is used to study the solar cell characteristics.

Digital Electronics Lab

This lab includes understanding of laws of Boolean algebra through digital circuits, to understand the basic characteristics of flip-flops, modulation and De-modulation, microwave propagation.

Communication Lab

The lab of communication electronics deals with the knowledge of various types of antennas and their basics. This lab includes Dipole antenna, hertz antenna, Zeppelin antenna, loop antenna, ground plane antenna, etc.

Nuclear Physics Lab

Nuclear Physics lab covers GM-Counter and understanding of its characteristic development. Plateau characteristic of GM- Counter and its design, pulse height and voltage of GM tube, absorption of radiation and characteristic of source can be studied through this lab.

Computational Lab

This lab is very important at PG label. At beginning stage of PG label it helps a lot of. Fundamental knowledge of computational knowledge is learnt.

Advanced Computational Lab

This lab is useful for digital computer programming for Microprocessor like as 8085/8086 etc.
