ABOUT ELETRONICS & COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING

The Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) Department has a rich tradition in research and teaching. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering offers one UG Program, two PG programs and Doctoral Programs. ECE is a swiftly advancing field, with new ideas emerging every other second. From mobile phones to fiber optics and remote sensing, there are exciting avenues to explore and create. The ECE department prepares students for careers in this constantly evolving discipline. ECE Dept. has well equipped labs and has ample resources in computing equipment, including personal computers running the full suite of CADENCE, Xilinx, MATLAB and Network Simulation Software. It has Vector Signal Generator & Analyzer, Network Analyzer. The department has strong collaboration with industries and reputed institutes. The research interests of the faculty members of the department encompass the wide area of applied and fundamental aspects of Electronics and Communication Engineering. The department faculty members interacted with internationally reputed persons. The faculty members and students of the department presented research papers in the referred International conference in India and abroad. Research articles were published in International journals.

Electronics & Communication has penetrated every walk of today’s lifestyle from home appliances to mobile phones, from computers to security devices (CCTVs etc), from biometric attendance to remote controlled doors and so on. The world today cannot be imagined without electronics in it, thanks to Electronics & Communication Engineers.

Electronics & Communication Engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individuals through to international companies.

A degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering prepares a professional to work in various engineering areas from the sophisticated bio-medical diagnostic equipment to leading edge fiber optic communications. Computer, Telecommunications, Consumer Electronics etc. Electronics & Communication Engineering are involved with the design, development and maintenance of a huge range of systems as well as projects. Their role is central to ensuring the safe, light, user friendly, electronic systems for easing/ aiding various walks of life.

Electronics & Communication Engineering graduates are also valued in commercial and corporate sectors such as finance, banking and accountancy. An Electronics & Communication Engineering degree would be of great value in operational management, supply chain management, procurement, intellectual property, logistics and after-sales management as well.

Bachelor of Engineering (Electronics & Communication Engineering)

This programme is offered by the department of Electronics & Communication Engineering. The main objective of the BE (ECE) program is to equip students with necessary core competency to succeed long-term in engineering/ entrepreneurship careers after completing their BE and are preparing to undertake PG studies and research as career options. As a discipline, ECE focuses on the design of underlying hardware systems. Our curriculum is directed to applications in major areas such as telecommunications, energy and electronics sectors, while encouraging development of necessary skills for integration of hardware and software components. We believe that many creative opportunities exist at the boundaries of traditional ECE, and have accordingly planned for cross-training of students across disciplinary boundaries.The program of BE in Electronics & Communication Engineering is a full time undergraduate degree program of a period of 4 years distributed in 8 semester containing 28 creadits per semester and 224 total credits in 8 semester as per the norms and guidelines prescribed by UGC. The program consists of 5 course of theory paper and 3 course of practical laboratories in each semester upto 6 semester and 4 course of theory & 2 course of practical with 1 minor & 1 major project work in 8 semester along with appropriate incorporation of the core, elective & Discipline Specific Elective as the course attributes in a well defined manner in the curriculum.The BE program of Dr. C.V.Raman University targets to prepare its students as ready to work.

This programme is offered by the department of Electronics & Communication Engineering as a effective program targeting the student who wish to pursue research and development in industries or higher studies in the field of Digital Communication . It offers in depth knowledge about the various specific field of Digital Communication with an emphasis on fundamental understanding of Digital Communication at the primary and initial level and the core understanding of Digital Communication at the final level including the research component in the form of project work. We believe that many creative opportunities exist at the boundaries of traditional ECE, and have accordingly planned for cross-training of students across disciplinary boundaries. The program of MTech in Digital Communication is a full time postgraduate degree program of a period of 2 years distributed in 4semester containing 18 creadits per semester and 72 total credits in 4 semester as per the norms and guidelines prescribed by UGC. Laboratories

BASIC ELECTRONICS LAB

This is our busiest set of laboratories, in terms of utilization. Its overall needs are versatility and generality, in view of the many basic course needs it serves. This is the main lab where basic experiments like device characteristics and basic circuits are held. This lab is general enough to hold a number of experiments suitable for giving students enough exposure to enable them to easily adopt experiments in more advanced laboratories in the department.


ANALOG ELECTRONICS LAB

It gives them hands-on experience with complex analog circuits which could not practically be built from scratch in a lab setting. More than that it puts control of those circuits in a graphical interface setting, allowing students to interact directly with the circuit schematics.  By showing students the real world power of analog electronics we can inspire a new generation of electronic designers


DIGITAL ELECTRONICS LAB

Laying a strong foundation for electronic engineers this lab makes the students understand the fundamentals of digital Electronics. The Digital Logic Lab is where our students gain practical experience in the use of basic hardware components. Through experiments, students become familiar with gates, multiplexers, decoders, flip-flops, counters, registers and displays. Explains Boolean logic functions, Describes TTL and CMOS logic, as well as IC logic devices. Describes proper method for detection and correction of common fault potentials.


NETWORK ANALYSIS & SYSNTHESIS LAB

This lab introduces the students to the basic electrical measuring equipments and they will deal with some of the frequently used instruments and equipments, like the digital multimeter, tester etc. The students obtain the basic knowledge about different types of wiring circuits, behaviour of current, voltage, power, energy under different conditions and their determination. They can also gain knowledge about residential wiring, trouble shooting various electrical equipments like ceiling fan, mixer, air conditioner and other electrical gadgets. These experiments help to provide them the foundation they require to be Electronics & Electrical engineers.


INSTRUMENTATION LAB

It is the task of instrumentation and control engineers to research, design, install, develop, test and maintain instruments, electronics and computer control systems that are used in the process industry. With the help of automation techniques and computer-aided processes, they formulate ways to control these systems. Their prime focus is to ensure that the processes operate efficiently and safely. This lab prepares students who seek to enter this stream by providing them with intricate knowledge to manage and control instruments


MICROPROCESSOR LAB

This is our fundamental laboratory in E.C.E department. This lab has various types of microprocessor trainer kits modules to demonstrate the detailed applications of microprocessors. The purpose of this laboratory is to train the students to be familiar with the software and hardware of microprocessors so that they can gain enough experiences to meet the demand of the microprocessor era. Students learn about assembly language programming, CPU, memory and I/O design, interfacing of programmable chips and peripherals, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters etc. They acquire the practical skills sufficient to design and realize basic microprocessor based systems. This laboratory is used to provide intensive practical exposure to the students in the field of microprocessor architecture and industrial control through them. Different exercises in this lab includes Serial Data Communication between PC and 8085 microprocessor trainer kit, writing on EPROM and microcontroller Chip using UIP. The lab also provides the facility to interface the microprocessor with different circuits.


MICROCONTROLLER LAB

This is our fundamental laboratory in E.C.E department. This lab has various types of micro controller trainer kits along with interfacing modules to demonstrate the detailed applications of microprocessors. The purpose of this laboratory is to train the students to be familiar with the software and hardware of micro controller so that they can gain enough experiences to meet the demand of the micro controller era. The facilities in the laboratory enable students to build a firm background in micro controller hardware as well as software. Students learn about assembly language programming, CPU, memory and I/O design, interfacing of programmable chips and peripherals such as stepper motors, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters etc. They acquire the practical skills sufficient to design and realize basic microprocessor based systems.


VLSI LAB

The VLSI laboratory is well equipped with the most up-to-date industry standard VLSI EDA tools and hardware resources like Xilinx, Tanner EDA tool, Synopsys EDA tool and Spartan FPGA. The laboratory provides hands-on experience to students in the field of analog and digital circuit design to conduct world class research. The laboratory is designed to expose the students to a set of tools for CMOS design, starting with circuit simulation and leading to physical layout, design rule checking, and extracted circuit simulation. Students gain knowledge in using EDA tools to design, simulate, and verify schematics and layout of logic gates. It also serves to facilitate design and implementation of digital design on FPGA.


COMMUNICATION LAB

The lab intends to cover the basic course of analog and digital communication which involves the Analog communication (communication system I), Digital communication (communication system II). To understand the functionalities of various block-sets involved in communication system. It involves system design practical and experiments based on different communication trainer kit. Students are introduced to the functioning of modern communication systems and how they perform in the presence of noise. After performing experiments the student can understand the working of different communication involved in our daily life and get the knowledge of analog and digital communication.


OPTICAL COMMUNICATION LAB

This lab is used by the students to perform practical pertaining to the study of optical fiber communication using state of the art kits.  The department provides an in-depth knowledge on advanced optical communication. The Lab in Fiber Optics provides the student with an experience on the various fiber optic and digital communication techniques.


MICROWAVE & COMMUNICATION ENGG. LAB

The mission of this lab is to design , analyze the characterization of Microwave and optical communication devices. This lab is equipped to carry out basic microwave measurements, such as impedance, power, frequency, VSWR, etc., using waveguide technology as approximately 300 students per year undertake practical courses in this laboratory. In addition to supporting these courses, the lab also provides the necessary equipment for the students to perform their projects in both Microwave and optical communication domains.


DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING LAB

This lab is concerned with the representation of signals as a sequence of numbers and the operations carried out on the signals to extract specific information contained in them. The objective of the laboratory is to enable the students simulate and experiment with digital signals and systems and apply the theory they have studied in DSP courses. Students can implement digital signal processing algorithms using different computational platforms and DSP tools. They can critically analyze the behavior of their implementation, and observe the specific limitations inherent to the computational platform and tools.


LINEAR INTEGRATED CIRCUIT LAB

Linear Integrated Circuit & Application are the present state of art of IC technology. It is one of the core area of ECE and constitutes the largest application is used today. This lab is intended to make student understand the use of different linear and digital IC trainer kit etc. In this lab, the student will become familiar with various IC’s such as µA741 OpAmp like comparator, adder, subtractor, etc and various application of SE/NE 555 like monostable operation and schmit trigger. In addition to the above they will become familiar with various voltage regulator & sample & hold circuits.

Visit to Radio Raman

On 7th of April 2016, department of Electronics & Communication Engineering has organized a visit of Raman Radio for students of VI semester of ECE accompanied by one of our faculty member of the department Mr. Ravi Tiwari (Asst. Professor). It’s a great privilege for us specially students that our university has its own radio station, where students got practical knowledge about the processing and functions of technical and non technical part of the station.

A Visit to Botanical Garden

A botanical garden is a garden dedicated to the collection, cultivation and display of a vide verity of plants labelled with their botanical names. A great full moment again for the department of electronics and communication engineering for grab the opportunity on 12th oct. 2015 to visit a garden under the supervision of Mr. Ravi Tiwari (Asst. Professor) having vide range of various medicated, pioneer plants. It contains specialist plants collection like turmeric, Gauti tea etc and other succulent plants, herbs garden, plants from particular parts of the world and so on. Students also learn about the functions and how to develop greenhouses, shade houses etc.
