Read This Before Opting To Be A Teacher

The ability to frame young minds is a huge responsibility, which is what makes teaching such a noble profession. Teachers need to be respected, especially because they go out of their way to impart knowledge to these young minds. A lot of teachers have to adapt to new methods of learning like technology and e-learning facilities. These factors can be more challenging than we can understand to appreciate.

A student opting to become a teacher can choose between different levels of teaching. Here are some details about them as the qualifications for all of them are different.

Pre-Primary School Teachers - Students between the ages of three and five go to pre-primary schools, which is why the teachers in these schools play a very important role as they are the first contact these children have with the outside world. Pre-primary school teachers help shape the child’s personality and develop methods of learning that the child goes on to use later in life. Students are taught basics like alphabets and numbers using fun and engaging activities like singing and painting. This helps them understand that learning is fun. To become a pre-primary school teacher, one would need a diploma in early childhood education or a diploma in Nursery Teacher Training.

Primary School Teachers - Primary schools consist of students between the ages of six and twelve. Primary school teachers contribute to teaching and shaping the cognitive and reasoning skills of a student. Teachers are not expected to specialize in any subject and deal with the basics of all the subjects. There is a lot of emphasis placed on interactive sessions as this helps shape the students’ personality. The foundation of what the students learn in primary school stays with them for the rest of their lives. The courses that can be done include Elementary Teacher Education (ETE) for 2 years, Bachelor’s in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) for 4 years or Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) for 2 years.

Secondary School Teachers- These teachers are also known as trained graduate teachers and are responsible for instructing students from sixth to tenth grade. They help students learn all the subjects in-depth and each teacher is expected to specialize in some of the other subjects. Teachers have to do B.Ed for this post, which is a two-year course.

Senior Secondary School Teachers- Also known as post graduate trained teachers, they are responsible for teaching 11th and 12th standard students. The teacher is expected to have a degree in the subject they are teaching, along with a B.Ed degree.

Those are all the details one would need in order to become a teacher in India.
